Virtual Complexification

bigstockphoto_Golf_403608_smallWe often seek out new technology to simplify or make our lives easier, and yet it can have the inverse effect. Do you recall the fad of breadmakers? Designed to make breadmaking easier, it actually complexified lives that had relied on store bought bread.

New hand-held PDA technology (Iphone, Blackberries, Treos) was designed to give us freedom to be connected from anywhere. Yet they often complexify our lives – because everyone now wants instant feedback and we are trying to do more in less time. We can play a round of golf and still be on the 11am conference call.

What else is great about simplifying?

AIMING to simplify,
Camille

bigstockphoto_Guitar_117323_smallIf you haven’t heard of Keb Mo, stop reading and check him out. (www.kebmo.com) A fantastic jazzy – bluesy – folksy singer, Keb Mo is a master of wit and words. His lyrics remind me of the importance of surrounding ourselves with thoughts that inspire, engage and “raise us” to new levels.

How do you consciously choose what you listen to, what influences us?
My favorite song? Life is beautiful, Life is Wonderous….

AIMing to sing, even more,
Camille

Go ahead, ask

bigstockphoto_Who_Me_23569182_smallA colleague of mine introduced me to a simple, life altering idea.  "If you don't ask, the answer is no.”

How often have you wanted something and been too embarrassed to ask?   How often have you been curious about something, but been too busy?

AIMing to ask,
Camille

Kids Know

bigstockphoto_Party_Balloons_2012749_smallWe often default to “Mommy knows best” – and yet often kids are a terrific judge of character… They “read” people, see below the surface, and simply seem “to know.”

So what is it that they focus
on? What do they notice? Where do we “adults” focus? What might we be missing? What else can we learn from kids?

AIMing to notice more,
Camille

How to Shine

bigstockphoto_Catching_Stars_44031_halfI am working in the desert of Nevada, and while looking at the stars last night, I was reminded of a distinction a colleague shared:

Stars – shine brighter than the rest.

Leaders – cause others to shine even brighter.

The busier life gets, the more we tend to focus on moving forward, getting things done and shining.
Who makes you shine bright? How might you say thanks? Who are you helping to shine brighter today?

AIM to shine,
Camille
